Phlebotomy Program
Students will learn about the duties and responsibilities, the work environment and safety considerations as they relate to the job of a phlebotomy technician; vital signs, blood cells and blood vessels; methods of specimen collection, including venipuncture, capillary puncture and arterial puncture; specimen transport; special phlebotomy procedures, including symptoms, equipment, tests, procedures and guidelines and IV insertion.
Students will master the following skill sets: sterilizing medical instruments, preparing and positioning the patient, using proper order of draw, securing blood samples via venipuncture and capillary puncture, labeling vials, processing specimens, as well as disposing of sharps and hazardous waste. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the MedCA certification exam.
Phlebotomy Program Schedule:
DAYS 14 WEEKS 2 days a week.
EVENINGS 14 WEEKS 2 days a week.
WEEKENDS 14 WEEKS 2 days a week.
